Academy Awards
In 1982, Stanwyck was honored with an honorary Oscar, eight years before her death. Up until that award, Stanwyck had been nominated four separate times, first in 1938 for “Stella Dallas,” next in 1942 for “Ball of Fire,” third in 1945 for “Double Indemnity,” and a fourth time for “Sorry, Wrong Number” in 1949.
Of the honorary Oscar ceremony,
Paul Sheehan of GoldDerby.com said, “She basked in the standing ovation and then made her way to the podium. There she acknowledged the passing of [William] Holden just four months earlier saying, ‘He always wished that I would get an Oscar and so, tonight, my golden boy, you got your wish!’”
