Should I Get an Arm Lift?

Thursday, 07 October 2010 02:49 PM EDT

Drooping and sagging arms can make you feel self-conscious about wearing short sleeves. An arm lift surgery, with or without liposuction, will help create a well-defined and trimmed arm, and give a toned appearance. With advancements in technology, arm lift surgery has become quite safe and doesn't leave behind the scars of the past.

Arm lift surgery is one of the four most popular plastic surgeries that is performed. Many people who have lost weight and have loose skin and fat that cannot be removed opt for arm lift surgery. The soft tissue of the arm becomes lax, which forms the basis for ptosis or sagging. Thin people have also been known to have arm lift surgery done. The upper arm is the region where most of the arm lift sagging occurs and has often been the spot for arm lift surgery, even in people who exercise regularly.

If thinking of going for arm lift surgery, the physician will provide you with a number of pre-operative instructions like quitting smoking, medications to be avoided, and food habits that will increase the risk of bleeding. A high protein diet is required before undergoing arm lift surgery.

The arm lift surgery will require only a few hours in the hospital and is performed under local anesthesia. The procedure requires minimal incisions after which the excessive skin is removed, trimmed, and tightened following the removal of fat.

After the surgery, there may be a number of regions of swelling and scarring in the area where arm lift surgery was performed. Arm lift tape is applied to the regions of incision and removed once the sutures dissolve. New arm lift tape is applied following examination for any post-operative symptoms. While the arm lift tape is on, there will be some level of discomfort, and the doctor will usually advise that you avoid lifting heavy objects and strenuous activities.
