The Grand Canyon is known throughout America and the entire world. This canyon follows along the Colorado River in the northern part of the state and encompasses more than 200 miles. Only parts can be seen along South Rim Drive and a small portion of the North Rim can be viewed by traveling a paved road during the summer. Snow blocks this area during the winter months. If you want a more inclusive view of the park, you will have to either follow a dirt track or a trail. The sites are worth every moment of the trip and it is one you will never forget.
The Petrified Forest is another can't miss on the list of the best national parks in Arizona. Here you will find the largest concentration of petrified wood. The colors seen here cannot be described by words! Additionally, you can explore the Painted Desert badlands along with archaeological sites and historic structures. Many visit this park just to see fossils which are on display, as some are over 200 million years old.
Another stop during your travels should be the Saguaro National Park. This park is situated on either side of Tucson and each section consists of a densely forested area. Explore the short trails of the western section on Tucson Mountain. Although this section of the park is the smaller of the two, it is easily accessible. The eastern section, located on Rincon Mountain, offers summits of over 8,000 feet and is more remote as it consists mainly of mountainous regions.
