A surge in album sales following the death of Amy Winehouse propelled the crooner’s “Back to Black” album to the top, making it Britain’s best selling record of the 21st century, reports
Newser.
The album was originally released in 2006 and has sold 3.25 million copies since. And, in spite of illegal downloads dominating the market for much of the past decade, the album is the 12th best selling British album of all time.
Tony Bennett, who partnered with Winehouse for his “Duets II” album, will lead a tribute to the singer at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards show.
“It was a thrill to record with Amy Winehouse and when you listen to [our duet], it is a testament to her artistic genius and her brilliance as one of the most honest musicians I have ever known,” said the legendary singer.
