American Entrepreneur Honored Internationally

Putting people to work, that’s the business social entrepreneur William “Bill” Drayton is in.

Drayton is certainly no slouch. The 67-year-old founder and current chair of 'Ashoka: Innovators for the Public' won Spain's prestigious Prince of Asturius Award on Wednesday, reports Expatica.

Princes of Asturias Awards are a series of annual prizes awarded to individuals or organizations who make notable achievements in the sciences, humanities, and public affairs. The award was established in 1980 by the Prince of Asturias.

As a recipient of the award, Drayton’s company will be endowed with 50,000 euros ($73,000), a commissioned sculpture donated by Joan Miro, a diploma, and an insignia.

Ashoka, based in Arlington, Va., is a non- profit organization dedicated to finding and fostering entrepreneurs around the world. The company, reporting anannual revenue of nearly $30 million, has sponsored 2,145 fellows in 73 countries since 1981.

Among notable Ashoka fellows is Jimmy Whales, co-founder of Wikipedia.org.
