Allen West 2016: What 5 Liberal Pundits Say About Potential GOP Presidential Hopeful

By    |   Tuesday, 10 February 2015 03:40 PM EST

For many of the same reasons that Republicans support potential 2016 GOP presidential hopeful Allen West, liberal pundits have a passionate distaste for the Florida politician.

The former U.S. representative is known for his outspoken and unapologetic criticisms of the Democratic Party and his right-wing extremism, often lobbing fiery insults at party members and representatives.

Here is what five liberal pundits have to say about presidential GOP hopeful Allen West:

1. “He's an embarrassment to the party. Republican House members of Congress and party officials can either condemn West and expel him from the GOP caucus or else confirm that his views are perfectly acceptable,” Steve Chapman of the Chicago Tribune said, discussing many of West’s scathing criticisms of Democrats, including President Barack Obama.

Chapman considers West’s brashness unprofessional.

2.
“West, who represented Broward and Palm Beach counties for two years, was known more for his often incendiary rhetoric than legislating,” wrote Sun Sentinel political writer Anthony Man.

He said West’s outspokenness may have made him popular with often angry Tea Partiers, but created enmity with Democrats and some Republicans.

3. “West (who always seems to refer to the president as Barack Hussein Obama or B. Hussein) has never met a POTUS conspiracy theory he hasn’t liked and embraced,” said Justin Baragona on Politicus USA, citing West’s tendency to refer to the president as an Islamic sympathizer.

4. Liberal political commentator Alan Colmes and political analyst Angela McGlowan discussed the GOP list of possible presidential candidates on Fox News. When McGlowan mentioned the possibility of Herman Cain choosing Allen West as his running mate, Colmes did not think it would be a wise decision.

“Allen West is another cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs far-right extremist,” Colmes said. He did not agree that West would help Cain succeed.

5. “There’s a limited shelf life for paranoid lectures on Marxism, Saul Alinsky’s playbook, and secret Communists in Congress. And before long, it dawned on an electorally significant number of his constituents that they were stuck with an arrested-development congressman who is more of a WWF version of Sarah Palin than a problem solver,” wrote Frank Cerabino of the Palm Beach Post when West lost his re-election campaign to Democrat Patrick Murphy.
