Travel to Myrtle Beach isn't just about resorts and beaches; visitors looking for adventure will have plenty options to choose from.

Here are seven destinations for adventure-seekers:

Latest: What's Your Favorite Type of Vacation? Relaxing or Exploring?

1. If you like riding ATVs through the mud, Carolina Backwoods ATV Adventure Tours has what you need. Choose the “down n dirty” ride — make sure to bring a change of clothes — or the “high n dry” tour to stay bit little cleaner.

The ATV adventure also includes rustic and deluxe cabins to accompany its backwoods experience. Tour guides provide entertainment and a safe environment for families.

2. Thrilling rides range from roller coasters to drop zones to go-kart entertainment at the Family Kingdom Amusement Park. Kids can enjoy bouncing on the Jump Around Dune Buggies and adults can free fall for 110 feet at the Slingshot Drop Zone.

Splashes Oceanfront Water Park
, part of the Family Kingdom, offers a refreshing retreat from the heat. Located across the street from the amusement park, the water park includes speed slides, water flumes, and pools.

3. For people who want to experience jungle thrills, there are the outdoor zip lines, Tarzan swings, and the obstacle courses that feature pathways and rope ladders at the Go Ape Treetop Adventure. Located in the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex, the adventure course has some 40 exhilarating crossings, such as the Zigzag Bridge, the Flying Carpet, and the Spider's Web.

4. See Myrtle Beach from the air with Helicopter Adventures. A two-mile introductory flight takes you over the breathtaking sights of Broadway on the Beach. There are six other tours to choose from, including one that will take you up to 52 miles as you tour Myrtle Beach and the North Carolina/South Carolina state line.

5. Fast and furious action is yours at Myrtle Beach Zipline Adventures. Hold onto your hat as your rise up 600 feet from one tower to another and then suddenly free fall down a 60-foot tower. Six racing ziplines provide fast-paced entertainment for participants and spectators.

6. NASCAR fans can check out the training grounds for some of the nation’s top drivers at Myrtle Beach Speedway. Racing events are held regularly throughout the year. Try taking a real ride yourself, either driving or in the passenger seat, along the speedway. The speedway also features concerts by top performers.

7. Perhaps the most exciting and awesome feature of Myrtle Beach for adventure travel is the SkyWheel, a 187-foot-tall Ferris wheel. It has 42 glass-enclosed gondolas with a beautiful view of the surroundings. It operates year-round.
