Thursday, 18 August 2011 12:54 PM EDT

Abigail Breslin, made famous for her role in ‘Little Miss Sunshine,’ is poised to take on a much more macabre, lead role in the indie drama ‘The Class Project,’ reports Variety

Director Stan Brooks will use a script by Fabrizio Filippo and Adam Trill, adapted from Toronto Star reporter Bob Mitchell’s 2008 book “The Class Project: How To Kill a Mother: The True Story of Canada’s Infamous Bathtub Girls.”

The true story follows two Canadian sisters who plot to kill their mother after becoming exasperated with her alcoholism and abusive boyfriends.

It took over a year for authorities to discover their crime.
Michael Rotenberg will serve as producer with Damian Ganczewski and Juliette Hagopian. Production is slated to begin this month.
