The Newsmax Rising Bestsellers list will do more than stimulate your mind. These reads may challenge your beliefs, broaden your perspectives, excite your curiosities, or widen your imagination.

These books may not necessarily appear on the official New York Times list of bestsellers, but they're the ones our Newsmax audience is reading, talking about, sharing with friends, and buying.

Here are the Newsmax Rising Bestsellers for the week of Aug. 22, 2022:

1. “Breaking History: A White House Memoir’’ by Jared Kushner (Broadside Books)

The senior advisor to and son-in-law of President Donald Trump bares the inner workings of the White House. He candidly reveals details of debates in the Oval Office, double-crosses at the United Nations, tense meetings in Arab palaces, high-stakes negotiations, and the daily barrage of leaks, false allegations, and West Wing infighting. He also describes what he says is Washington's intense resistance to change and tells how he broke through the stalemates of the past, delivering unprecedented results on trade, criminal justice reform, production of COVID-19 vaccines, and Middle East peace. His successful negotiation of the Abraham Accords, the most significant diplomatic breakthrough in 50 years, earned him a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize. (Nonfiction)

2. “Electable: Why America Hasn't Put a Woman in the White House . . . Yet’’ by Ali Vitali (Day Street Books)

NBC's Capitol Hill correspondent says the gendered double standards placed on women presidential candidates have doomed them as contenders for the White House for years, even though most are highly qualified with decades of public service on their resumes. Grappling with ideas around the “likeability” and “electability” issues, as well as fundraising hurdles many female candidates face, Vitali asks why is it so hard for a woman to be taken seriously as a presidential contender? And what will it take for men and women to be held to the same standard? (Nonfiction)

3. “Haven” by Emma Donoghue (Little, Brown and Company)

A disillusioned priest in seventh-century Ireland sails off in a small boat with two monks, in a bid to leave the sinful world behind forever. Drifting in the Atlantic, they come to a bare, impossibly steep island inhabited by tens of thousands of sea birds and claim it for God. The trio quickly vow to build a monastery — but can they survive such harsh conditions? Donoghue is the author of the bestseller “Room.’’ (Fiction)

4. “Take Back the Game: How Money and Mania Are Ruining Kids' Sports--and Why It Matters’’ by Linda Flanagan (Portfolio)

Some 75% of American families want their children to play sports and believe athletics are training grounds for character, friendship and connection, insulating kids from hardship and prepare them for adult life. But coach and journalist Linda Flanagan argues youth sports have changed so dramatically in 25 years that they no longer deliver the healthy outcomes everyone wants. Instead, unbeknownst to most parents, kids who play competitive organized sports are more likely to burn out or suffer from overuse injuries, increasing the risks of physical and mental health problems. (Nonfiction)

5. ‘‘Broken News: Why the Media Rage Machine Divides America and How to Fight Back’’ by Chris Stirewalt (Center Street)

Stirewalt, a senior fellow at the center right nonprofit the American Enterprise Institute was infamously sacked as political editor at Fox News after he called the 2020 presidential election for Joe Biden. In this expose, he reveals how news organizations have succumbed to the temptation of “rage revenue” through slanted coverage that drives political division and rewards outrageous conduct. He charges that rage revenue-addicted news companies are plagued by shoddy reporting, sensationalism, groupthink, and brain-dead partisan tribalism, with newsrooms relying on “emotion-driven blabber.’’ (Nonfiction)
