The Newsmax Rising Bestsellers list will do more than stimulate your mind. These reads may challenge your beliefs, broaden your perspectives, excite your curiosities, or widen your imagination.

These books may not necessarily appear on the official New York Times list of bestsellers, but they're the ones our Newsmax audience is reading, talking about, sharing with friends, and buying.

Here are the Newsmax Rising Bestsellers for the week of Aug. 8, 2022:

1. “Cinder Girl: Growing Up on America's Fringe” by Holly Thompson Rehder (Bombardier Books)

Rehder, a conservative state senator from Missouri, recounts how she transformed her tragic personal history into a life of resilience, hope, and civic success. Growing up on welfare and food stamps, quitting school at 15, and becoming a mother at 16, she ultimately decided she had to do things differently. Twenty years later, she’s a successful businesswoman and rising political star who uses her position to inspire young women across America. Rehder challenges readers to reflect on the plight of those far less fortunate, who struggle without the opportunities most of us take for granted. (Nonfiction)

2. “Always Faithful: A Story of the War in Afghanistan, the Fall of Kabul, and the Unshakable Bond Between a Marine and an Interpreter” by Major Tom Schueman and Zainullah Zaki (William Morrow)

A dual memoir of the war in Afghanistan told by two men from opposite worlds. Schueman, a Marines major, and his friend and Afghan interpreter Zaki describe their parallel lives, converging paths, and unbreakable bond in the face of overwhelming danger, culminating in Zak and his family’s harrowing escape from Kabul. They challenge readers to explore the legacy of the war for American and Afghan citizens alike, as Americans collectively seek to understand whether 20 years of war was worth the price. (Nonfiction)

3. “Swerve or Die: Life at My Speed in the First Family of NASCAR Racing” by Kyle Petty and Ellis Henican (St. Martin’s Press)

The former stock-car racer — son of racing icon Richard Petty, grandson of NASCAR pioneer Lee Petty and father of then-rising race car driver Adam Petty, who was killed in a crash in 2000 — dishes the inside story of America’s most famous racing family and recounts gossipy anecdotes about stock-car racing’s most famous drivers. His memoir also tackles the sport’s evolution, discussing how welcoming diverse racers, improving car and track safety features, and integrating green technology will benefit NASCAR’s competitors and fans in the future. (Nonfiction)

4. “Heat 2” by Michael Mann and Meg Gardiner (William Morrow)

The first novel from writer-director Michael Mann (Miami Vice, Ali, The Insider) revisits the characters played by Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino and Val Kilmer in Mann’s famed 1995 crime thriller “Heat,’’ as they tackle rival crime syndicates in South America and deadly criminal enterprises in Southeast Asia. Writing with Mann is award-winning mystery novelist Meg Gardiner (Fiction)

5. “The Leadership Secrets of Nick Saban: How Alabama's Coach Became the Greatest Ever” by John Talty (BenBella Books)

A biography of the legendary coach who’s led Alabama’s unstoppable Crimson Tide to capture six of the last 12 national college football titles.
