“Sir, my concern is not whether God is on our side, my greatest concern is to be on God’s side, for God is always right.” — Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865)
Our country is falling apart.
And with it, the world.
Evil is running rampant and it seems we mere mortals are powerless to stop it.
But people of faith have always known that God Almighty shows up and never gives up on his children.
It is a world divided … just as it was in 1969.
Then, we had Vietnam, free love, long hair, LSD, dropping out, draft dodging, The Weather Underground, Black Panthers, Brezhnev, Yippies, Hippies, race riots and the constant threat of nuclear war.
Now, we have Ukraine, Syria, Trump supporters imprisoned, Biden voters delusional, open borders, fentanyl deaths, race-baiting, rampant crime, runaway inflation, food and energy shortages, abortion being pushed like M&Ms, open borders allowing the worst into America, clear, intentional efforts to destroy our economy, our children being turned against us and mutilated by the government/medical/pharma complex, brain-damaged politicians, Antifa, BLM, The Squad, still, Bernie Sanders, Dem-Communists running amok, “pandemics” with Soviet-style control of the citizenry, suspicious elections, fake insurrections, again, race riots, the constant threat of nuclear war and a certified war on Christians.
In my analysis, oh how I wish I was back in 1969.
As most of us know, God is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent, we can always count on him. And he always sends a sign.
One such sign came recently as a simple chapel hour at Asbury University in tiny, two-stop-light, Wilmore, Kentucky grew into a full-on, round-the-clock, 19th-century Christian revival. The band played on. And the people remained worshipping.
Heartening.
For over two weeks from February 8th, many thousands (approximately 15,000 each day and more than 70,000 over the duration) came from other colleges and in groups across America and overseas to participate in this carnival for God.
Christian believers all around America were elated.
Surely this was a sign God was watching the degeneracy of our leaders and was going to do something, something big and majestic very soon.
The second timely and astonishing sign was the movie release of “Jesus Revolution.” You may have already heard of it, but please consider this is a firm prompt that this movie is not to be missed.
The Left and non-believers could not stop this film from opening in theaters across this country; something the godless heathens definitely didn’t want.
"Jesus Revolution" is a superbly written movie with a strong plotline based on a true story.
A real feel-good movie for all the people who today are beleaguered, distressed and angry. It has what is very rare for a movie: a real curative effect.
I’ll not ruin the movie for those who want to see it … which is all of us with a shred of faith and belief in a higher power. A trailer for the film is here, and a really good analysis of the actors and all the film’s details is here.
However, I strongly recommend seeing it without any research or spoilers in advance; this film is that good and the surprise is well worth it.
The basics are these:
In April 1966 Time magazine ran a story and a cover that posited the obviously blasphemous question, “Is God Dead.”
As Time magazine aligned itself squarely in the vein of Friedrich Nietzsche, Mr. “God is dead” himself, God’s children around the planet cried aloud, “No He’s not!!”
Time magazine, June 21, 1971: "The Jesus Revolution."
This is what "Jesus Revolution" is about, the time period (1966-1971) between these two mass media statements; the first so wrong and heinous and the latter so right and righteous.
This movie has three transcendental, real-life characters and so many more women playing such important roles in this mad-dash for God.
The lead role of Pastor Chuck Smith is played expertly by Kelsey Grammer. Grammer of “Cheers” and “Frazier” fame, seems to have been thrust into this glorious role for him by God Himself; it’s such an unlikely movie for a Hollywood actor to play. But he loved it.
Lonnie Frisbee is the character who brings it all together and is played brilliantly by Jonathan Roumie, who also plays Jesus in “The Chosen.”
Finally, we have the enduring central character of Greg Laurie, later Pastor Greg Laurie of the Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California. Laurie is a 17-year-old in the movie searching for a path in life. Who of us hasn’t been one or known one?
The use of music in this film is outstanding. It includes what I remember as one of the first rock songs to reference Jesus, The Doobie Brothers, “Jesus Is Just Alright” & The Animals, “House of the Rising Sun.” Both songs make my hairs stand on end with spine-tingling opening refrains and chords.
This movie is one of a sometimes gut-wrenching, sometimes saddening, and always worthwhile journey to transformation, to redemption, to absolution and to finding a spiritual home with God and Jesus Christ.
Sprint out to see this movie. Don’t just run or walk.
Take your family, take your parents, and take your friends who are nonbelievers. Everybody needs a pick-me-up right about now.
Just arrive at the theater about 15 minutes late, take your time and get your snacks at the concessions.
You don’t want this upstanding film ruined by the degradation of the Hollywood trailers which are so appalling.
