DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A fire has broken out at a large mall under construction in Qatar.
The Qatari Interior Ministry said it was battling a fire Saturday afternoon at a mall under construction near Al-Rayan Sports Club in Doha, the country's capital. That's near where developers are building the Mall of Qatar, a large-scale mall that's being built adjacent to a soccer stadium that will host the 2022 World Cup.
Video on social media showed a thick black cloud of smoke rising over the mall. UrbaCon Trading & Contracting Co., the construction company building the mall, did not immediately answer a request for comment by email and a telephone message Saturday.
