A newborn was in critical condition Thursday night, saved by an emergency C-section after his mother was struck and killed by a vehicle clearing snow in a New York City parking lot during Thursday's snowstorm.

The New York Post reported the pregnant mom, 36-year-old Min Lin, was packing grocery bags into the trunk of her car Thursday morning when a Bobcat construction vehicle backed into her in the Fei Long Market parking lot in a predominantly Asian section of Brooklyn. Her husband was with her.

Snow was falling heavily at the time and officials said low visibility could have been a factor, the Post reported.

Lin died at Maimonides Medical Center around 11:45 a.m., but doctors were able to perform an emergency Caesarean section and save her nearly full term baby boy, the Daily News reported.

The 6-pound, 6-ounce infant was in critical condition in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit, NBC News reported.

"She's a good mommy," Songqing Huang, a friend of the victim, told NBC News 4. "My good friend too."

It was not clear if the 42-year-old driver would be charged. The Post reported investigators will go over surveillance tapes to determine if the vehicle was being operated safely.
