Americans don’t believe the federal government is doing enough to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. A majority are also worried about a second wave of the virus hitting later this year, according to a new CNN poll

The poll conducted by SSRS was released Tuesday. It shows Americans continue to say the federal government is doing a poor job combating the spread of virus.

  • 54% of Americans say the government is doing a poor job curbing the spread of the virus.
  • 52% of Americans say the worst of the virus is yet to come.
  • 56% of Americans say the government isn’t doing enough to address the death toll.
  • 58% of Americans say the government is not taking enough action to protect against a second wave of cases later this year.

Americans are sharply divided on their views on the federal government’s response efforts across party lines, according to the poll

Eighty-two percent of Democrats polled say the federal government is generally doing a poor job, while 80% of Republicans say the government is doing a good one.

The poll surveyed 1,112 people between May 7-10. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
