Nearly 100 percent of Americans surveyed said they're holding off on making major purchases prior to next week's election, but there is one item flying off the shelves - guns.

According to the Washington Examiner, 16 percent of those polled said they're planning to buy a gun because of the election.

The breakdown of those 16 percent, according to the Examiner:

  • Women: 24 percent.
  • People aged 35-44: 23 percent.
  • People living in the South: 19 percent.

Further, the firearms maker Beretta announced a 20 percent sale on magazines, and the sports chain Gander Mountain is having a sale on semi-automatic weapons, including AR-15s, the Examiner reported.

Driving gun sales is the uncertainty of a Hillary Clinton administration, who has promised to fight for gun control reform.
