About half of Americans said they are comfortable returning to a normal routine amid the coronavirus pandemic, an increase of nearly 10 percentage points from a month ago, a new survey found.

Key findings in the CNN poll:

  • 49% of Americans said they are comfortable returning to normal life. From May 7-10, that number was at 41%.
  • 73% of Republicans, 23% of Democrats, and 53% of independents said they are comfortable returning to a normal life.
  • 46% said they would probably not be able to return to a normal life this year, while 30% said the opposite.

The Trump administration supports states reopening their economies and getting people back to work following months of closures because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and President Donald Trump plans to resume his campaign rallies sometime this month.

Health experts, however, are worried about a rising number of cases and hospitalizations related to the virus.

The CNN poll was conducted among 1,259 U.S. adults from June 2-5. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
