Kid Rock announced he is setting up a nonprofit to promote voter registration as part of a possible run for the Senate in his home state of Michigan.

He made the announcement in a late Wednesday night tweet:

"During this time while exploring my candidacy for U.S. Senate, I am creating a 501©(4)— a nonprofit organization for the promotion of voter registration," Kid Rock said in the announcement. "Not only can I raise money for this critical cause, but I can help get people registered to vote at my shows."

The singer said he got positive responses from the possibility he might run.

"I was beyond overwhelmed with the response I received from community leaders, D.C. pundits, and blue-collar folks that are just simply tired of the extreme left and right bull****," the singer said.

In an July 13 announcement on his website,  Kid Rock wrote he would continue releasing music during his possible campaign.
