The
Senate Conservatives Fund Friday showed just how deep its ire against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell runs by endorsing his primary challenger, Matt Bevin.
McConnell's lead role in striking a deal with Democrats to re-open the government and increase the debt ceiling appears to be the straw that broke the camel's back.
In an email to supporters Tuesday, the fund's executive director
Matt Hoskins wrote that McConnell was "leading the surrender" of the GOP, The Hill reports.
"Matt Bevin is a true conservative who will fight to stop the massive spending, bailouts, and debt that are destroying our country," Hoskins said of the businessman's endorsement.
"He is not afraid to stand up to the establishment, and he will do what it takes to stop Obamacare."
Beating the incumbent won't be easy, Hoskins admits. "Mitch McConnell has the support of the entire Washington establishment, and he will do anything to hold on to power. But if people in Kentucky and all across the country rise up and demand something better, we're confident Matt Bevin can win this race."
The Kentucky primary is scheduled for May 20.
