LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Saudi prince is the previously anonymous owner of a property that is the proposed site of a mega-mansion that has brought gold-plated protest in the wealthy neighborhoods around Beverly Hills.
The Los Angeles Times said Friday that one of the sons of Saudi King Abdullah in 2009 bought the three adjacent parcels with the famous 90210 zip code in Benedict Canyon, where the massive mansion that is roughly the size of the famed Hearst Castle is set to be built.
Property records say he paid $12 million.
Residents of the neighborhood that is home to Jay Leno, David Beckham and Bruce Springsteen say the mansion will bring years of construction that will hurt their quality of life, pose environmental threats and be too big for the neighborhood's narrow streets.
