President Donald Trump has reportedly said he plans to award the Medal of Freedom, America's highest civilian honor, to Rush Limbaugh.

Limbaugh, the iconic conservative talk radio host, announced this week on his broadcast that he has advanced lung cancer. Trump confirmed his plan during a lunch with network TV anchors on Tuesday, Politico reported.

Trump is also said to have extended an invitation to Limbaugh to join first lady Melania Trump in the gallery during Tuesday night's State of the Union address.

Said Politico, one person at Tuesday’s lunch described Trump as “ shaken up” by the news, and kept mentioning that he and Limbaugh had seen each other in West Palm Beach, Florida last month during the president's extended holiday stay there. Limbaugh did not say anything about his health at that time, according to the person's account.
