The makers of ABC's "Designated Survivor" were briefed by a leading gun control group about how to portray gun violence on TV, The Washington Free Beacon reports.
And now, The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence is urging its supporters to thank the network for airing an episode of the Kiefer Sutherland series that focused on guns, according to the publication.
The group — named for James Brady, Reagan's press secretary who was permanently disabled by a bullet meant for the president — said it educated the show's production team about on-screen gun violence.
"We hope integrating this issue into storylines can help facilitate more conversation about the everyday gun violence that kills 33,000 Americans a year …" the Brady campaign's Brendan Kelly told the Beacon.
The drama revolves around a low-level Cabinet member becomes president of the United States after a catastrophic attack kills everyone above him in the line of succession.
