More than two-thirds of Republicans feel the news media poses a bigger threat to the United States than white supremacists, according to a new poll.

The results of a Fox News survey released Wednesday:

  • 69 percent of Republicans think the media is a larger threat than white supremacists, compared to 18 percent who said the opposite.
  • 76 percent of Democrats think white supremacists pose a greater threat.
  • 45 percent of men think the media poses a greater threat, while 43 percent said the opposite.

White supremacists gathered in a Charlottesville, Virginia, park earlier this month and clashed with counter-protesters in a violent riot that resulted in the death of a woman after a man drove his car into a crowd.

The Republican National Committee formally denounced white supremacists in a resolution last week.
