Republicans took to Twitter Saturday to commemorate Armed Forces Day.
In the United States, the holiday was created in August 1949 and first celebrated on May 20, 1950.
It salutes those serving in the nation's five military branches — Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.
The holiday falls near the end of Armed Services Week, which concludes on Sunday.
Similar commemorations are held around the world.
