Thirty percent of those who own firearms only will vote for a candidate who shares their views on gun control, a new Gallup poll reveals.
Meanwhile, 56 percent say a politician's stance on the issue is one of many important factors when deciding who to cast their ballots for and 12 percent say they do not consider it a major issue when voting.
Here are the highlights from the poll results released Monday:
- 20 percent of those who don't own guns say they will only vote for a candidate who shares their views on the issue; 63 percent say is it one of many important factors when casting their ballots, and 13 percent say it is not a major issue.
- 32 percent of conservatives polled say they will only vote for a candidate who shares their views on the issue; 53 percent say it is of the important factors when voting, and 13 percent say it isn't a major issue.
- 16 percent of moderates will only vote for a candidate who shares their views of gun control; 63 percent say gun control is a key issue, and 16 percent believe it is not a major issue at all.
- 23 percent of liberals will only vote for a candidate who they agree with on gun control; 68 percent say it is one of many important factors, and 7 percent believe it is not a major issue.
The poll, conducted Oct. 5-11, surveyed 1,028 people. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
