House Democratic leaders have conflicting views about the GOP proposal to implement $4 billion in spending cuts over the two weeks starting March 4 to prevent a government shutdown. Rep. John Larson, D-Conn., chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, said Tuesday that he'll probably vote in favor of the bill, while Rep. Xavier Becerra, D-Calif., vice chairman of the caucus, say he'll vote no,
The Hill reports.
"I will probably vote in favor of it, even though I have severe questions about it," Larson told reporters in the Capitol Tuesday.
"No one wants to shut down government. But by the same token, I don't want to see this death by 1,000 slashes," Larson said.
Becerra contends Republicans are threatening a game of Russian roulette with the economy.
"I'm not going to vote for this," he said. "I'm not the one that's playing with the toy."
