DHS Press Secretary David Lapan to Join Private Sector

Department of Homeland Security press secretary David Lapan said Tuesday he was leaving the Trump administration at the end of the month.

Lapan, a longtime colleague of White House chief of staff John Kelly, confirmed his departure to CNN.

He will join the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington as senior director of communications and public affairs, according to the report.

Lapan, who worked with Kelly in the Marine Corps and the Defense Department, joined DHS when Kelly became secretary in January.

Kelly became chief of staff in July after the resignation of Reince Priebus.

CNN reported in August that Lapan was under consideration for White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci was fired.
