The nonpartisan U.S. Congressional Budget Office concluded on Monday that a border security amendment to a landmark immigration bill would reduce unlawful entries into the country as well as visa overstays.

Republican Senator John Hoeven, a chief author of the amendment, told Reuters that he welcomes the CBO's findings and said he it may help build support for the measure that faces a Senate vote later in the day.
