President Barack Obama is about to get his third White House counsel. Bob Bauer has resigned from the position to join the president's re-election campaign, Obama announced Thursday,
The Hill reports.
Kathryn Ruemmler, Bauer's deputy, will take over from him June 30. Bauer is headed back to Washington, D.C. law firm Perkins Coie, where he'll again represent Obama on personal matters. He will also serve as general counsel to Obama's re-election campaign and general counsel to the Democratic National Committee.
Bauer came to the White House in 2010. He needed a waiver of Obama's ethics policy to serve as White House counsel because of his previous role as Obama's lawyer at Perkins Coie.
Ruemmler joined the administration in 2009 as a top official at the Justice Department before moving to her present position last year.
