NumbersUSA, which advocates tighter immigration controls, reports that it has picked up three more Republican U.S. House members to support legislation that would give local law enforcement the resources needed to enforce federal immigration laws. That brings the number of sponsors for the CLEAR Act of 2011 to 27.

Reps. Brian Bilbary of California, John Kline of Minnesota, and Tom Price of George have signed on as co-sponsors, NumbersUSA reported Tuesday.

The proposed law would recognize the authority of states and municipalities to enforce immigration laws. It also would improve information sharing between state and local and the federal government on immigration matters.

In addition, the law would mandate that federal officials expeditiously remove criminal aliens detained by states and local authorities and it would increase federal funding for local governments to assist in immigration enforcement.
