A Five Guys restaurant burglar in the nation's capital grilled a couple of hamburgers like he knew what he was doing, added some cheese, and then left without taking any money,
Washington City Paper reported.
The "hamburglar" apparently followed a delivery person into the restaurant above the Columbia Heights Metro station between 3:10 a.m. and 5:05 a.m.
"He then rummaged through the establishment, cooked food, and stole bottled water before leaving the restaurant," a Metropolitan Police report said on Sunday, noting the suspect grilled a couple of hamburgers while talking on the phone.
Police released surveillance video of the suspected burglar, wearing a fedora hat, and it was posted on YouTube.
"He cooked food," Metropolitan Police Officer Sean Hickman told the
Washington Post. "I don't know if he made a hamburger or not."
A Five Guys Little Cheeseburger with unlimited condiments goes for $5.69, noted the Post.
D.C. Crime Solvers is offering $1,000 for a tip leading to the arrest of the suspect, according to the Post, which could buy about 175 Little Cheeseburgers.
A few on social media appeared to understand the burglar's fixation at the Five Guys' grill.
