Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz says Democratic Party leaders cannot force scandal-ridden Rep. Anthony Weiner to quit, Politico reports.

“Anthony Weiner needs to resign so he can focus on his own well being,” the Florida congresswoman said Sunday on “Meet the Press.” “At the end of the day a member of Congress makes their own decision and that’s certainly going to be up to Anthony Weiner but we have made clear that he needs to resign.”

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus, appearing on the same show, disagreed that Democratic leadership cannot force Weiner's hand.

“This is a question of leadership,” he said. “It’s always been a question of leadership . . . leadership in Democratic party . . . are defending a guy who has no defense.”
