Biden Eager for Budget Debate With Trump

Vice President Joe Biden said Tuesday at a fancy fundraiser event in Cleveland that he welcomes a debate with Republicans about the future of the country, and that he hopes the debate will include Donald Trump, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Biden told a crowd of about 100 at the event for Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown that the GOP has a “different vision” for handling the runaway federal budget deficit that has ballooned under the Obama administration.

“This is not your father’s Republican Party,” he said. “The Republicans this time are totally, and I don’t mean this in a pejorative sense, are out of the closet. They are laying out for the first time what they are for and how they think they are going to deal with the problem.

"That’s a debate I can hardly wait for — hopefully with Donald Trump.”

Donald Trump has been considering joining the race for the Republican presidential nomination. Some recent polls show him ahead of the pack of potential Republican candidates.

Biden, famous for his gaffes, said he would keep his remarks brief because “if you keep a group standing for more than 10 minutes, you lose all support.”

He spoke for nearly 26 minutes.
