Shahira Knight will replace Marc Short as White House legislative affairs director, Politico reported.

Knight, who was most recently a deputy director of the National Economic Council, is a top economic adviser to President Donald Trump, and played a central role in guiding the Republican tax bill through Congress that was signed in 2017, according to The Hill.

She had announced that she was leaving to take a job at the Clearing House, a banking policy and lobbying group, but agreed to stay on longer after National Economic Council director Larry Kudlow's recent heart attack. Since then, Knight had been in discussion to take over from Short, the website reported.

Short, whose last day is Friday, had sought to block Knight's selection for the job, White House officials said, The Wall Street Journal reported.

"Marc was an integral part of the White House staff. We will miss his profound expertise, commitment to the taxpayers, and leadership," said White House chief of staff John Kelly, The Journal reported.
