Donald Trump's failure to capture 1,237 delegates and win the GOP presidential nomination would result in "more than a hundred delegates" yanking their support from him on a second ballot at the Republican National Convention this July, Politico reports.

Delegates, delegate candidates, operatives and party leaders interviewed by the political news website believe a contested convention is more likely because of Trump's lower poll numbers in Wisconsin, where a pivotal GOP primary takes place Tuesday.

"One of Trump's top advisers privately acknowledged worries to a Republican operative that Trump might not make it to 1,237 and aired concerns that his rivals are better-positioned to win a drawn-out convention, according to the operative," Politico said.

A new Fox Business Network poll puts GOP presidential candidate Ted Cruz ahead of rival Donald Trump by 10 points in the upcoming Wisconsin primary election.

In the poll of a random sample of 1,602 Wisconsin voters, including 742 likely Republican voters, showed:
  • Cruz, 42 percent;
  • Trump, 32 percent;
  • Ohio Gov. John Kasich, 19 percent.
