The lead House impeachment manager for Donald Trump's second impeachment said Monday the former president could still potentially be barred from holding public office again.
In an interview on ABC's “The View,” Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., charged that Trump violated his oath of office and “acted as the inciter-in-chief” ahead of the Jan. 6 Capitol siege and could be banned from public office for it.
“That is still something that Donald Trump may face,” he declared, predicting there’ll be a “tidal wave of litigation coming his way both from people who were injured or whose family members were killed in the insurrection he incited, as well as from criminal prosecutors.”
Raskin, citing Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, said “anybody who has sworn an oath to the Constitution and to the government but has violated that oath by joining an insurrection or rebellion against the union forfeits any opportunity to serve in public office again.”
Trump was acquitted on the charge of inciting an insurrection by the Senate on Feb. 13.
