The Washington punditry has been full of predictions that the alliance between Republicans and the tea party movement will break down. But that’s not happening, says prominent tea partyer Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky.,

Asked by the Lexington Herald-Leader if he sees the tea party movement turning into a third party, Paul said, "I don't think so. Right now it is a great advantage to us in the Republican Party because it has grown the Republican Party."
Tea party-backed congressmen have helped hold their GOP colleagues’ feet to the fire when it comes to spending cuts.
Paul has said he would vote against the $61 billion in spending cuts approved by the House last week because they don’t go far enough.
