Democrats have a 7-point lead over Republicans among likely voters on a generic congressional ballot ahead of the midterm elections Tuesday, a new poll showed Sunday.

In the latest Washington Post-ABC News survey, Democrats are preferred in House races by 50 percent to 43 percent among all registered voters. They have a 51-to- 44 percent advantage among likely voters.

That lead shrinks to 49 to 44 percent in districts labeled "toss-ups,” according to the survey.

The lead has narrowed over the last two surveys: Democrats led by 14 percentage points in August, and by 13 points in October's poll.

Trump’s approval rating among all adults stands at 40 percent — the same as in early October and higher than his 36 percent in August. Those who disapprove account for 53 percent.

Among registered voters, Trump’s approval is 44 percent, with disapproval at 52 percent — the best margin among this group during his presidency, according to the Post.

In a Real Clear Politics averaging of polls, Democrats lead Republicans on a generic congressional ballot 49.3 percent to 42.1 percent.

Here’s some other findings:

  • 65 percent of all Americans rate the state of the economy as good or excellent; 34 percent have a negative assessment. Among registered voters, 71 percent say the economy is good or excellent, up from 60 percent in August.
  • 21 percent of Republicans say immigration is “one of the most important issues” in their vote, up from 14 percent in early October. The share of Democrats saying immigration is a top issue has dropped from 23 percent to 11 percent.
  • Among all voters, Democrats are favored to handle immigration over Republicans 47 percent to 42 percent; on border security, Republicans are more trusted 49 percent to 39 percent.
  • 17 percent of voters consider health care and reducing the country’s divisions as among the single most important issues;15 percent say it’s the economy, and 14 percent say immigration.

The poll’s overall margin of error is plus or minus 3 percentage points.
