If the Democrats are going to regain the House majority from Republicans, New Mexico's second district might be a reason.

The district was firmly President Donald Trump's by a 10.2 point margin in the 2016 presidential election, but Republican Yvette Herrell is struggling to hold off Democrat Xochitl Torres Small in a race that is all tied up 47-47 in the latest Emerson College Poll.

There were 6 percent of potential voters still undecided.

The RealClear Politics analysis has the race as a toss up, although the GOP's Herrell has a 2.7-point lead in the polling average with leads of 1 and 7 points in other polls.

The GOP had gained momentum in the district in 2016 as President Trump's double-digit margin of victory trumped the Mitt Romney and John McCain's performances in the 2012 and 2008 presidential elections.

The Emerson College poll was conducted online, surveying 278 potential voters Oct. 24-26 with a plus or minus 6.1 percentage point margin of error.
