Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, says he had nothing to do with getting former Republican House Majority Leader Eric Cantor defeated in the GOP primary earlier this year.
"Personally, I was disappointed that Eric lost," McAuliffe said Sunday on
WNYM-AM's "The Cats Roundtable." "As governor, I had the majority leader and, potentially, the next speaker of the United States of America as a member of my congressional delegation."

McAuliffe is a longtime Democratic operative who headed the presidential campaigns of both Bill and Hillary Clinton. He also served as Democratic National Committee chairman from 2001 to 2005.
Host John Catsimatidis told McAuliffe that some people blamed him for Cantor's loss, but McAuliffe said he was actually "disappointed" that Cantor was ousted.
"They shouldn't blame me," McAuliffe said. "I don't think he got back to his district enough, it's a very anti-incumbency mood."
