Rep. Matt Gaetz called for House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney to "step down or be removed," after a House GOP conference meeting on Tuesday.

Axios reports that Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and several other members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus attacked Cheney, R-Wyo, for breaking with President Donald Trump on several occasions and for supporting a primary opponent running against Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky.

“Liz Cheney has worked behind the scenes (and now in public) against @realDonaldTrump and his agenda," Gaetz, R-Fla., tweeted. "House Republicans deserve better as our Conference Chair. Liz Cheney should step down or be removed. #MAGA"

Donald Trump Jr. then posted Gaetz's tweet and added, "We already have one Mitt Romney, we don’t need another . . . we also don’t need the endless wars she advocates for."

A source familiar with the meeting told Axios that only five or six members of the House GOP conference are upset with Cheney while a majority support how she acted.

Before the blow-up, Cheney spoke about the consequences of a Biden-Pelosi-Schumer regime, why they pose a threat to the country and how everyone wants to see Trump win reelection, keep the Senate and take back the House.
