Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., will return to the Senate next week after receiving treatment for brain cancer, Politico reports.

His return as the congressional recess ends will give Republicans their full contingent of 52 votes in the Senate, according to Politico.

He finished his initial round of chemotherapy nearly two weeks ago. He was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer in July, Time magazine reported.

McCain voted against the Republican "skinny repeal" healthcare bill on July 28. He recently has been critical of President Donald Trump's pardon of former Maricopa County Joe Arpaio, The Hill noted.

As chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, McCain is expected to lead the debate on the National Defense Authorization Act, according to Politico.
