GOP presidential candidate and Ohio Gov. John Kasich wants to allow Syrian refugees into the United States, but only after carefully screening out any potential terrorists.

U.S. leadership is partly to blame for doing little to alleviate the fighting in Syria between government troops, Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists and "moderate" rebels backed by the United States, Kasich said.

But Kasich said he shares the concerns of those who fear terrorists may have infiltrated the throngs of refugees. But he said America shouldn't repeat the mistake of World War II when a boat of 908 Jewish refugees were turned away, and most are assumed to have died in concentration camps.

"I can't guarantee anything. Nobody can," Kasich said. "But I think it is our responsibility in terms of the global crisis."
