Jamie Dimon, chief executive office of JPMorgan Chase, said the fight over immigration is "tearing apart" America, according to CNN Money.

Dimon's comments came in his annual letter to shareholders.

"We need to resolve immigration — it is tearing apart our body politic and damaging our economy," he said.

He called immigration reform "important both morally and economically."

Dimon said Americans are in agreement on certain issues relating to immigration, including border control, a path to citizenship for undocumented Dreamers and a way to improve the nation's merit-based immigration system.

He maintained "law-abiding, hardworking undocumented immigrants" should have a path to legal status or citizenship.

But he added: "People immigrating to this country should be taught American history, our language and our principles. The American public will not be pro-immigration if we don't address these issues."
