Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., told the attendees at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference that he recently “dared to sing in church” in his home state, despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“Here's one of the many things that make our nation's so special: in America, every person has the right to have any faith of their choosing, or to have no faith at all,” Lankford said during his speech, which addressed religious freedoms. “And you're still a great American. You don't have to take off your faith when you leave your house. You don't have to take off your faith when you leave church.”
He added later, “Last Sunday, when I went to church. Yes, I know, I went to church in a time of COVID, which shows I live in Oklahoma, not in California, where you could go to swanky restaurants but not the church. I even dared to sing in church, contrary to California doctrine. Last Sunday, when I gathered with people in church and talked about the goodness of God, it was good for my soul.”
