President Donald Trump's approval ratings among independent voters has dropped several points as Democrats move forward on their push to impeach him, a Hill-HarrisX poll released Tuesday shows.

According to the survey of 1,000 registered voters across the country between Dec. 8-9, 56% of independent voters said they disapprove of the president's job performance, with 39% saying they approve, reports The Hill. The new numbers mark a sharp drop from early November when Trump's approval rating among independents was at 44%.

Trump's job approval dropped slightly among Republicans as well, by 3 percentage points to 85%.

In overall numbers:

  • 46% said they approve of Trump's performance.
  • 54% said they disapprove.
  • 26% said they strongly approve.
  • 20% said they somewhat approve.
  • 13% said they somewhat disapprove.
  • 41% strongly disapprove.

The poll's margin of error was plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
