Ivanka Trump used Thomas Jefferson's words to defend her father following the House of Representatives' vote to formalize impeachment proceedings against the president.

She tweeted Thursday:

"'. . . surrounded by enemies and spies catching and perverting every word [which] falls from my lips or flows from my pen, and inventing where facts fail them.' – Thomas Jefferson's reflections on Washington, D.C. in a letter to his daughter Martha. Some things never change, dad!"

The House voted 232-196 to formalize the impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.

The quote Ivanka Trump cites is from a letter Jefferson wrote to his daughter in 1801 when he was vice president and Congress was mulling whether Aaron Burr would still serve as president.

Jefferson's presidency was solidified a month later.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., announced impeachment proceedings after a whistleblower alleged Trump improperly pressured Ukraine's leader to launch politically related investigations into Democratic presidential frontrunner Joe Biden.

The House voted along party lines Thursday.
