President Donald Trump announced Friday the Department of Justice will propose to ban bump stocks and will seek feedback from the public while making its final ruling.

Minutes before Trump was scheduled to board Air Force One and fly to Florida for the weekend, he posted this tweet:

As he described, the DOJ will now seek public comments regarding the proposed rule.

Bump stocks are devices that fit onto the stock of semiautomatic rifles and speed up the rate of fire to closely mimic that of an automatic weapon. The shooter in last year's Las Vegas massacre was found to have used the devices on several of the weapons that he fired upon a concert crowd.

The NRA is opposed to banning bump stocks, but Trump is pushing forward with the proposal despite that.
