Conservatives reacted sharply to claims made by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., she has referred an allegation about Brett Kavanaugh to the FBI.
Judicial Crisis Network's Chief Counsel and Policy Director Carrie Severino issued a statement Thursday:
"This has all the indicators of an 11th hour character assassination and a desperate attempt to delay and defeat the nomination of Judge Kavanaugh, who has a sterling reputation in his community, his profession, his church, and among hundreds of friends, colleagues and co-workers. Judge Kavanaugh submitted a questionnaire of over 17,000 pages, participated in two full days of public Senate hearings, as well as a private session to discuss his background, and then he answered an additional 1,200 follow-up questions. We look forward to his prompt confirmation to the Supreme Court."
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, took to Twitter to castigate this last-minute attempt to stop Kavanaugh's nomination to the Supreme Court.
Cornyn tweeted: "Let me get this straight: this is statement about secret letter regarding a secret matter and an unidentified person. Right."
He continued:
"I will add: the FBI already performed and has reported on a background investigation on the nominee and this has been made available to all Senators on the Judiciary Committee."
