Former President Bill Clinton took a dig at President Barack Obama Tuesday, saying the economy has not improved much during his seven-plus years in office.
Clinton made the remark while campaigning for his wife Hillary in Indianapolis.
"But the problem is, 80 percent of the American people are still living on what they were living on the day before the [2008 financial] crash," Clinton told a crowd. "And about half the American people, after you adjust for inflation, are living on what they were living on the last day I was president 15 years ago. So that's what's the matter."
The former president has criticized Obama in recent months, most notably in March when he called Obama's presidency an "awful legacy."
"But if you believe we can all rise together, if you believe we've finally come to the point where we can put the awful legacy of the last eight years behind us and the seven years before that where we were practicing trickle-down economics with no regulation in Washington, which is what caused the crash, then you should vote for her,"
Clinton said at the time.
Hillary Clinton, who served as Obama's Secretary of State from 2009-2013, took a shot at her former boss in an
interview with The Atlantic two summers ago.
"Great nations need organizing principles, and 'Don't do stupid stuff' is not an organizing principle," Clinton said regarding Obama's apparent slogan for his foreign policy approach.
