Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders' name has been left off the Washington D.C. primary ballot after the D.C. Democratic Party submitted the Vermont senator's registration paperwork a day late, NBC Washington reports.

Both, the Sanders campaign and the Clinton campaign submitted a registration fee of $2,500 earlier this month in preparation for the June 14 Democratic Primary.

But, although both campaigns sent their registration paperwork on time, NBC Washington reports that the D.C. Democrats did not email Sanders' registration paperwork to the D.C. Board of Elections until a day after the registration deadline of March 16.

Board of Elections rules call for a hearing to be held on the issue and is expected to take place as early as next week.

However, Anita Bonds, the D.C. Democratic Party chairwoman said that the situation may be resolved through an emergency vote by the D.C. Council, if necessary. The Board of Elections could rule the situation as an administrative error and correct it, NBC reports.
